Judy Irene Duncan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on October 17, 1954, in Monticello, Florida, Judy lived a life filled with love, commitment, and passion for both her family and her career.
After dedicating 25 years to the Tallahassee Fire Department, Judy retired, leaving behind a legacy of strength and bravery. Fighting fires was not just a job for her but a true passion, and she excelled in every aspect of her work. Her commitment to serving the community was evident in the many lives she touched throughout her extensive career.
Judy married the love of her life, Dennis Duncan, on April 1, 1977. Together, they enjoyed 48 wonderful years filled with joy and companionship. Judy's family continued to grow, and she took tremendous pride in being a mother to Heath Duncan, who is married to Crystal, and a grandmother to her cherished granddaughter, Avery Duncan.
Judy’s love for animals was boundless. Throughout her life, she welcomed countless pets into her home, always surrounded by dogs, parrots, and cats. She had an exceptional gift for connecting with animals and was adored by each one that entered her life. Her beloved fur baby, Sassy, was a constant companion, sharing in countless happy moments.
A proud member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello, Florida, Judy's faith was an integral part of her life. She leaves behind not only her husband and child but also her brother Edward Strickland, and his wife Tammy, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and lifelong friends who will remember her fondly.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Clyo Strickland, who were her guiding lights and inspiration.
As we remember Judy, let us celebrate the vibrant life she lived and the impactful legacy she leaves behind. Family and friends are invited to honor her memory at a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., on April 14, 2025, at Oakfield Cemetery in Monticello, Florida. Gathering there, those who loved her can pay their respects and reminisce about the wonderful moments shared with this extraordinary woman.
